NEW LISTS REFLECT

BEST-SELLING SKUS

PARABLE

LAUNCHES ONLINE TRAINING

BEGINNING WITH THIS INAUGURAL ISSUE OF ASPIRINGRETAIL, the Top 50 Christian Books best-seller list and all other book lists are formulated slightly differently than in the past. Sales numbers for different SKUs (such as cloth, paper, and boxed sets) of a particular title will no longer be combined. While the aggregated number reflected the total number of sales a title had in all formats, it didn’t reflect customers’ preference of one binding or edition over another.

With the new tracking method, retailers will know from the lists which version of a book is a top seller. CBA Business Solutions Director Dean Edwards said while the new tracking method will help retailers with their buying decisions, it won’t dramatically change the lists.

“Our analysis shows only a very few titles have significant sales from multiple SKUs and will have their list position impacted,” said Edwards.

Also, the music and video lists now will be drawn from STATS data rather than Nielsen SoundScan data. SoundScan can include venue, direct-sales, and misleading single-market sales numbers. Also, video titles from book companies frequently didn’t show up at all, regardless of sales. STATS data is exclusively from Christian retail. The video list will continue to combine DVD and VHS sales.

In another change, only the Top 50 Christian Books list will be published in ASPIRINGRETAIL. All the other top-selling category lists will continue to be published online at www.cbaonline.org.

THE PARABLE GROUP HAS CREATED A new online training program for its franchise and member stores. The program complements Parable’s MemberNet and gives members information on customer service, new programs, company initiatives, and more.

Online courses are segmented into four learning levels. There’s an additional branded level for franchisees.

Frontliners can do their training on an in-store computer or log on from a home computer. Review tests help store owners and managers measure their employees’ knowledge and identify areas that need improvement.

New information will be presented monthly. Courses are created in-house and by suppliers. Parable also has partnered with CBA and updated some CBA training videos to make them easily available online.

P. GRAHAM DUNN HOSTS DEALER CONFERENCE

CHRISTIAN RETAILERS RECENTLY packed P. Graham Dunn’s annual Dealer Conference in Dalton, OH, within the state’s famed Amish community. They placed orders, received special offers on the company’s newest products, attended educational seminars, networked, and enjoyed a banquet with hundreds of colleagues.

P. Graham Dunn produces handmade products— lithographs, their signature laser and hand-carved plaques, frames, gifts, and furniture with inspirational Scripture messages. Though the company has been in business nearly 30 years, the biggest changes are yet to come. It plans to make a significant announcement later this

summer.

If you’re interested in attending the next Dealer Conference, contact P. Graham Dunn at (330) 857- 0306; or visit its Web site

at www.pgrahamdunn.com. You can also visit the company at booth 15113 at the 2005 International Christian Retail Show in Denver.

Charisma House is now distributing Penguin Group Christian-market titles. Upcoming projects include titles by T. D. Jakes and Jan Karon. Under the exclusive four-year agreement, Charisma House will decide which Penguin titles to carry to the Christian market. JMS Marketing was formerly Penguin’s CBA distributor.

DaySpring will build a new 35,000-40,000 square foot

corporate headquarters to accommodate growth. The $5 million facility should be completed in summer 2006.

Dicksons Inc. recently purchased Ton Communications, the gift company that supplied The Crown of Thorns and Christmas Nail. The agreement transfers title of all Ton products, trademarks, patents, designs, and poems to Dicksons, who will assume owner-

ship of www.giftsoffaith.com and www.christmasnail.com, plus Ton’s toll-free number.

EMI CMG plans for this year include a new phone system, telesales & services team restructure, simplified OnDeal program, longer solicitation cycle, and a plan to offer the best list price via EDI orders.

WaterBrook Press’ corporate offices moved to 12265 Oracle Blvd., Ste. 200, Colorado

Springs, CO 80921. Telephone and fax numbers will remain the same.

World Publishing announced parent company Thomas Nelson is replacing Omni to represent its book and Bible sales to U.S. independent Christian stores. Nelson sales reps now handle World Publishing sales. Retailers can combine World and Nelson orders.
